Outdoor STEAM Summer Camp
where science, nature, and adventure meet
Wild Islands Seaside Discovery is a week-long outdoor summer day camp for kids and youth 5-15 on the Eastern Shore.
Created and led by Eastern Shore Ocean Discovery Centre and Ferro & Tide Outdoors, this program brings together hands-on STEAM* learning, outdoor adventure, and meaningful connection to the natural world. *(Science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics)
Each day, campers will explore the shoreline, spend time in the forest, investigate coastal ecosystems, play games, build outdoor skills, and take part in creative, curiosity-driven activities connected to the seaside and the world around them.
Young people belong in nature too!

Hands-On Outdoor Learning

Wild Islands Seaside Discovery STEAM Summer Camps are a thoughtful partnership developed by the Eastern Shore Ocean Discovery Centre and Ferro & Tide Outdoors.

Angie Cumming (she/her)
Angie is co-founder of the Eastern Shore Outdoor Discovery Centre who came to ocean education by a winding path. Growing up, she wished she’d had more chances to explore the coast, and it wasn’t until she started scuba diving that she truly fell in love with the ocean. That late discovery fuels her passion for creating opportunities where young people can explore, ask questions, and feel the magic of the marine world.
Angie has spent over 15 years leading youth programming, beginning with teaching swimming lessons and later guiding international youth trips. She holds a master’s degree in marine science and conservation, earned so she could deepen her understanding and share it with others. She loves introducing people to the ocean through simple, joyful moments and helping someone see the ocean in a way they never have before.
Thunder Shanti (they/them)
Thunder Shanti is an outdoor educator, facilitator, and co-founder of Ferro & Tide Outdoors who loves being in the water, having conversations by the campfire, enjoying big coastal views, challenging themself while solo adventuring, and helping people feel more confident outside. They’ve spent more than 15 years leading youth programs, outdoor adventures, and hands-on learning experiences across Turtle Island (Canada).
At camp, you’ll probably find Thunder getting excited about cool moss or seaweed, encouraging campers to try something new, reflecting quietly by the ocean, teaching outdoor skills, and asking way too many nature questions. Their goal is to help create a space where young people can be themselves while learning and laughing together.

Edward “Fin” Finigan (he/him)
Fin is an outdoor leader, nature educator, and co-founder of Ferro & Tide Outdoors who brings deep local knowledge and hands-on experience to every learning environment. Having spent much of their outdoor leadership journey in a sea-kayak, he thrives in marine environments and takes great joy in introducing others to one of his favourite playgrounds. With more than 15 years of outdoor leadership experience in Nova Scotia and beyond, he specializes in helping people connect with the natural world through close observation, curiosity, and time spent outside.
At camp, Fin will be amongst the first staring into tidal pools for signs of life, identifying seabirds flying above the waves and enjoying the encroaching salt on his clothing. Being born and raised in Nova Scotia, his connection to the sea is unmistakable and he is looking forward to sharing it with the young stewards of tomorrow.
Charlie (he/him)
Charlie is an aspiring marine biologist and youth volunteer for the summer. Ever since he was a kid, he has loved the ocean and the creatures that live beneath its waves. Charlie grew up in Ontario and moved here to Nova Scotia last summer, and has loved studying its vast coasts since. He enjoys anything that has to do with fish, like fishing, eating seafood, or admiring his fish tanks.
